Faith in Action Caregivers – West Austin (FIAC-WA) is a coalition of
congregations with the purpose of providing support services to adults
60 years of age and older who live in the West Austin area. The volunteer
services include personalized transportation, errands, friendly visiting
in the home or by phone, and minor home repairs.
These services are at no charge to the recipients. Modeled after a national
volunteer caregiver project developed by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation,
FIAC-WA incorporated in 1985 as West Austin Caregivers with 5 sponsoring
congregations. The organization has grown to 17 sponsoring congregations.
FIAC-WA is one of ten Faith in Action Caregiver programs in the Austin metropolitan area. For information about the other locations, please go to www.fiacaregivers.org
Testimonials
“The Caregiver volunteers have been so wonderful to help me! I could not live
independently without caregivers.”
—Mrs. J.
“Each of the volunteers is beautiful. What would people
do without them? Your service is priceless.”
— Mr.P.
“When our Aunt's bus stop was removed from her street, you all restored
a bit of her independence by taking her to the hairdresser. Sounds simple,
but you allowed her to manage at home without her feeling like she was "beholden
to family," which none of us with any pride or independence enjoy.
Thank you so much for being part of our team that allowed our Aunt to remain
in her own home , in her own neighborhood, among the folks she enjoyed &
who enjoyed her.”
— Family of Miss P.
“I walk so slow--bless Laura-- she didn't mind walking as slow with me. You are
a wonderful group of people to help us in more ways than one.”
–Mrs. S.
“How sweet life is with all the caregiver volunteers.”
— Mr. E.
“Thanks for all you do for all of my age group. My volunteer has become a special friend to me.”
